Program Overview
B.Sc. - Medical Laboratory Technology is a 4 year degree program concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases through the use of clinical laboratory tests. Four years include three years theory and one year compulsory internship. During their internship the students are rotated to all the subspecialties of medical lab under a special guidance of pathologists and medical lab faculties.
Career Prospects
- The Medical Lab is the backbone of any hospital, either a small nursing home or a large corporate hospital. However much a doctor can assess the patient, he or she cannot give proper treatment without the benefit of laboratory results. The three pillars of Medical laboratory technology are Biochemistry, Microbiology and pathology. The medical lab technologies are trained to have basic knowledge in these three pillars of Laboratory medicine.
- The opportunities for medical Lab Technicians is limitless considering the very important role labs play in supporting clinicians. Such professionals can find themselves employed in private laboratories, hospitals blood donor centres, emergency centres, and clinics, they can also find jobs in Crime laboratories, research facilities, pharmaceutical companies, universities and defence.
- Further, students also can pursue PG programme in medical laboratory technology and after successful completion of PG, they are employed as lecturers/ Instructors in the teaching institutions of medical laboratory technology. They can also start and run diagnostic centres along with the medical professionals.
Eligibility Criteria
- Candidate shall have passed 10, +2 examination conducted by the respective state/central government authorities recognized as equivalent to 10,+2 examination by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) with English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Botany & Zoology / Biotechnology. Candidates who studied abroad should possess equivalent qualification as determined by Association of Indian Universities.
- Minimum of 50% aggregate of marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology / Botany & Zoology / Biotechnology Age: Completion of 17 years on or before 31st December and not over 25 years as on 1st July of year of Admission.
Eligibility Criteria For Lateral Entry
The lateral entries applicable for all the UG Degree Course of Allied Health Science Wherever corresponding Diploma Course is valuable in the concerned speciality (DMLT). The duration of one year Internship applicable for all the lateral Entry Candidates.
